For my back to school top ten I have decided to split into two lots of five. The first set of five are books I fell in love with whilst in high school. The second set of five are books I think would make excellent discussion topics for those now in high school. My top five books I fell in love with whilst in high school
- Lucas by Kevin Brooks
- The Magicians Guild by Trudi Canavan
- Sabriel by Garth Nix
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling
- Wind Singer by William Nicholson
My top five books for class discussion
- The Hate U Give (THUG) by Angie Thomas
- After the Fire by Will Hill
- Slated by Teri Terry
- The Glimpse by Claire Merle
- Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
What were your favourite books to read in high school, and which books would you like to see discussed in classrooms?
The Hate U Give would be a great book to read and discuss with a class from what I've heard about it. Great list.
ReplyDeleteOooh man, Lucas!
ReplyDeleteI have seen it on TWO lists today!
I really need to give Sabriel another go.

I read Sabriel and Wind Singer when I was at school too, I often reread the Sabriel and its sequels but I haven't read the Wind Singer books for years.
ReplyDeleteI think Slated and The Hate U Give would be great books for classroom discussions too.
My Top Ten Books I read for school.
I've reread The Old Kingdom series a few times, and have recently just bought Goldenhand. I haven't read Wind Singer in a while though. May have to do a reread. I would love to be back in school and have Slated and THUG as reading topics!
DeleteSo glad to see "The Hate U Give" on that list. It`s a book that everyone should read, regardless of their age.

I totally agree. It show a different side to things that often gets lost in the news, and occasionally on social media.
DeleteThe Hate U Give would be an excellent book for a class discussion. Good job on that one! I totally agree with Georgiana on everyone needing to read it.
