Top Ten Tuesday #1

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Back To School Freebie
For my back to school top ten I have decided to split into two lots of five. The first set of five are books I fell in love with whilst in high school. The second set of five are books I think would make excellent discussion topics for those now in high school.

My top five books I fell in love with whilst in high school
  1. Lucas by Kevin Brooks
  2. The Magicians Guild by Trudi Canavan
  3. Sabriel by Garth Nix
  4. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling
  5. Wind Singer by William Nicholson

My top five books for class discussion
  1. The Hate U Give (THUG) by Angie Thomas
  2. After the Fire by Will Hill
  3. Slated by Teri Terry
  4. The Glimpse by Claire Merle
  5. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

What were your favourite books to read in high school, and which books would you like to see discussed in classrooms?

  1. The Hate U Give would be a great book to read and discuss with a class from what I've heard about it. Great list.

  3. I read Sabriel and Wind Singer when I was at school too, I often reread the Sabriel and its sequels but I haven't read the Wind Singer books for years.
I think Slated and The Hate U Give would be great books for classroom discussions too.

    1. I've reread The Old Kingdom series a few times, and have recently just bought Goldenhand. I haven't read Wind Singer in a while though. May have to do a reread. I would love to be back in school and have Slated and THUG as reading topics!

  4. So glad to see "The Hate U Give" on that list. It`s a book that everyone should read, regardless of their age.

    1. I totally agree. It show a different side to things that often gets lost in the news, and occasionally on social media.

  5. The Hate U Give would be an excellent book for a class discussion. Good job on that one! I totally agree with Georgiana on everyone needing to read it.
