The Halloween Creatures 2.0 Book Tag

I was tagged by Cora at Tea Party Princess to do The Halloween Creatures 2.0 Book Tag, which  was created by Anthony at Keep Reading Forward (who also created the original version).

Witch

A Magical Character or Book
A Study in Silks by Emma Jane Halloway
Evelina Cooper is one of my favourite fictional witches. Although the series is hard to find, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for Victorian Era steampunk, with a twist of magic.

Werewolf

The Perfect Book to Read at Night
Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
So probably not the best book to read at night, especially if you live in an old creaky house. There is definitely a Scooby Doo vibe to this book, but it's a lot more creepy & spooky. I couldn't get enough of it though, I loved it so much I refused to go to bed till I'd finished it.

Frankenstein

A Book that Truly Shocked You
Shadow of the Wolf by Tim Hall
I was not expecting anything like this for a Robin Hood retelling! I'd love to find out how the trilogy ends.

The Devil

A Dark, Evil Character
Father John from After the Fire by Will Hill
This was a tough choice, but I decided on Father John because one of the worst things a person can do is take someones faith & brainwash them into doing things to suit their own agenda, whilst harming others. What makes this character even more evil, is that this really does happen & Will Hill's After the Fire portrays this amazingly!

Grim Reaper

*Spoiler!*

A Character that Should Never Have Died
Matthias from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Just why?! Had Nina not gone through enough already? Honestly no reason other than to break our hearts </3

Zombie

A Book that Made You “Hungry” for More
Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan
I am beyond soul destroyed that I re-homed this series. My mum would get me the books even though she was terrified of the covers, & I loved them so much! Full of blood & gruesomeness!

Gargoyle

A Character that You Would Protect at All Cost
Lila Bard from A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E, Schwab
This should come as no surprise to anyone. I absolutely love Lila! Highly doubt she needs protecting though.

Vampire

A Book that Sucked the Life Out of You
The Court of Air by Stephen Hunt
Although I enjoyed reading TCoA, it is quite long & written with a style that at times made it hard to follow.

Ghost

A Book that Still Haunts You
Lucas by Kevin Brooks
Ever since reading this book for the North East Teenage Book Awards, I've never been able to re-read it without crying my eyes out half way through cos I know how it's going to end.

Demon

A Book that Really Scared You
The Diviners by Libba Bray
I strongly debated putting this further up for Werewolf, but it REALLY isn't!! Do not ever read this book at night, or in the dark. Find somewhere nice & sunny with lot's of people.

Skeleton

A Character You Have a Bone to Pick With
All of them! I don't think a book would work if there's wasn't characters we wanted to boop on the head for doing something stupid, like entering the obviously haunted house where they know an ax murderer is skulking.

Mummy

A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time
The Glass Mountain by Martina Evans
This is one of my favourite modern classics. Set in Cork Ireland during the 80's it follows Meave who is trying to figure out who she is, & what she'd like to do with her life. It captures the uncertainty of choosing a life path perfectly, & is beautifully written.

Creepy Doll

A Cover too Scary to Look At
The Vanished by Celia Rees

The Vanished

I don't think I need to say anything...
